| Description: This three-day course on Green Fuels Blending: Technology & Economics by Ara Barsamian, President, Refinery Automation Institute, LLC, is designed to provide a comprehensive overview and discussion of gasoline, diesel, and bunker blending techniques, technology and cost/benefits. It addresses contemporary issues such as the latest specifications, ultra low sulfur fuels, impact of ethanol and bio-diesel blending, and environmental impact of various gasoline, diesel and bunker specifications. Case studies are used to illustrate the relative importance of each aspect of the fuels blending operation, together with specific exercises. The program content is designed for organizations in the petroleum refining, fuel/product trading, petrochemical and automotive industries, refinery instrumentation and automation, refined product marketing, storage terminal operators, bunker operators, and government agencies responsible for fuel regulations. |

| Description: The Energy Dialogue is organised to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise straddling the economic, environmental, security, sociological and technological aspects of energy and discuss issues of interest to Singapore. This second dialogue in our series will be led by Shell's top business leader and chief scientist, and ESI's head of energy security and principal fellow. Shell will present an overview of the available solutions to address the world’s uncertain energy future, and how technologies and changes in habit can improve energy efficiencies. ESI will provide an overview of the energy security outlook at the centre of the supply chain. These talks will be followed by a panel discussion; addressing the question of whether technology holds the solution to the energy challenge and issues pertaining to energy efficiency. |

| IISS Nuclear Dossier Launch | ![]() |
| Description: The London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) will announce at SIEW the findings of a year-long research project it has conducted with the support of the Energy Studies Institute (ESI) and other sponsors on the safe use of nuclear energy in Southeast Asia and the neighbouring Australasia region. A book-length IISS report, scheduled for publication in September 2009 analyses how nuclear energy can contribute to sustainable development in Southeast Asia in a manner that is safe, secure and non-threatening. The country-by-country overview chapters assess national aspirations, plans and potential capabilities for nuclear energy as well as their attention to safety, non-proliferation and strategic trade controls. Particular attention is devoted to nuclear safety and security along with analysis of regional cooperation efforts and strategies for developing institutional capacity on a national and regional basis. |
