Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong

Mr. Lee Hsien Loong has been Singapore’s third Prime Minister since 2004. He was first elected Member of Parliament in 1984 as a candidate of the People's Action Party (PAP) in Teck Ghee Constituency and has been re-elected in five consecutive elections, most recently in 2006. Before becoming Prime Minister, Mr Lee held Ministerial appointments in Trade and Industry, Defence and Finance. He was also Deputy Prime Minister for 14 years, with responsibility for economic and civil service matters.

Abdullah Bin Hamad is the Energy and Industry Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister of Qatar, and the former President of OPEC. He is the chairman of Qatar Petroleum and its subsidiaries. His Excellency started his career in 1972 with the Ministry of Finance and Petroleum of Qatar. He held the post of Head of International and Public Relations at the Ministry from 1973. He has also served as the Director of the Office of the Minister of Finance and Petroleum, director of the Office of the Minister of Interior and the Acting Minister of Finance and Petroleum. Since 1992, Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah has been the Minister of Energy and Industry. In 2003 he was appointed as the Second Deputy Prime Minister and in 2007 became Deputy Prime Minister.

Dr Alf Bjørseth

Alf Bjørseth earned his Doctor Phil. degree in physical chemistry from the University of Oslo, Norway in 1979.
In 1994, he started ScanWafer and later three other companies, that merged into Renewable Energy Corporation (REC), where Dr. Bjorseth served as President and CEO from the start until 2005.
He is now running his private company, Scatec AS, where the main objective is to establish new companies based on the latest technologies in the areas of renewable energy and advanced materials.
Dr. Bjørseth is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and The Norwegian Academy of Technical Sciences, and has been honoured as Commander of The Royal Order of St. Olav

Nobuo Tanaka took over as Executive Director of the IEA on 1 September 2007. Prior to that, he had been Director for Science, Technology and Industry at the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Mr. Tanaka began his career in 1973 in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in Tokyo. He has extensive national government and international experience within METI, the Embassy of Japan in Washington D.C. and the OECD.

Dr Peter Taylor leads the IEA division that analyses and promotes the role of energy technologies in achieving the three goals of the IEA: energy security, economic development and environmental protection. Prior to the IEA, Peter was Technical Director of Future Energy Solutions (a business of AEA Technology plc), a major UK energy and environmental consultancy, and had spent 15 years working in both research and consultancy on a range of national and international energy and climate change policy issues. He holds a PhD in Energy Economics from Imperial College, London.

Daniel Yergin is a highly respected authority on energy, international politics and economics. He is founder and chairman of IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates (IHS CERA), which is one of the world's leading consulting and research firms in its field. He received the Pulitzer Prize for The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power (in a new edition in 2009), and is currently writing a new book on energy and geopolitics.
Dr Yergin plays a leadership role in the global energy industry. He received his BA from Yale University, and his Ph.D. from Cambridge University, where he was a Marshall Scholar.
